Wildlife Field Camp

Kellen | January 22nd, 2009

BOKU offers a variety of courses- including Digestive Systems in Wildlife! So I got to spend a week in Burgenland, Österreich studying wildlife digestive systems. Our teacher was from Switzerland and worked at a Zoo there. It was interesting to look at the different diets of animals especially comparing domestic to wild. Then at the end we even had the opportunity to take apart the digestive systems of 4 wild animals. This is my group working on a Roe Deer. It was SUPER cold outside and the guts had been frozen so it made for a chilly experience. Also, if you nick the intestines with the scissors while you are unraveling them?um…you get a very unpleasant smell. Just in case you are ever taking apart intestines. :)
