"So, is this the first time you're in the States?"
The land of opportunity? here I am! My girlfriend, who also studies at the WVU, and me came here one month ago. One month where we had the opportunity to see a lot, gather new experiences and even to travel around a bit. The first impression I had after we left the airport in Washington D.C. were: cars and traffic. Huge cars and huge traffic. The average vehicle here is at least 50% bigger than back home in Vienna. But that was just one of the differences that I noticed.
After our arrival we were invited to spend three days with Eric’s family. Eric’s father gave us a ride around the capital city. Impressing to see the buildings I only knew from the news or movies. But Washington D.C. would be good for another visit. Air and Space Museum for instance.
We arrived in Morgantown 12 days before school started so we had some time to kill. And I guess we were quite lucky to find a flight from Morgantown Municipal Airport to Seattle for 371 bucks (roundtrip). So we already had the opportunity to see the birthplace of Starbucks and the famous Pike Place Market. And Seattle was the highlight of our trip so far. A big ‘humming’ city with good coffee and nice bars – oh yeah.

After 3 days in Seattle we took the Greyhound bus to Vancouver and enjoyed B.C.’s metropolis. And if you ever make a trip to Vancouver drop into ‘Trees Organic Coffee” and order a cheesecake. Mmhhh – definitely the best dessert I had so far in the states.
But three days in Vancouver were enough and so we took the Greyhound back to Seattle again where we spent the rest of our stay in a fun hostel on Vashon Island right off the coast of Seattle.
So this is the story of the first two weeks I spent here in the United States. More will come soon: about classes – about clubs and of course about football! One of the first things I learned here was: “Let’s go …. Mountaineers!”
PS: My mother toungue is German so please excuse my mistakes in spelling and grammar – there will be a lot ;)
