Spring break as an exchange student

Spring break would easily make it in the top 25 reasons to study abroad because no matter what you do, it will most likely top your friend?s spring break agenda and give you bragging rights for years to come. Hear me out; for the break I could have just sat around in my flat, watched movies, and caught up on sleep, but I would still be in Hungary. The mere fact that I?m overseas allows me to brag to my grandchildren years from now about the one time I went to Hungary for spring break.

But there are distinct differences between spring break as an exchange student and spring break as a regular student.

Back in the States, I crave spring break worse than a smoker trying to kick the habit. It seems to take every ounce of power just to make it through the month of February till the break begins in March. But once that Friday hits, that glorious Friday, the one that marks the start of the break, and the last lecture is over, a waterfall of energy overtakes my body, like I just finished a marathon. I want to run through the hallways, giving high 5s to fellow classmates along the way, and scream WE DID IT! WE’RE FREE!

The bottom line is that you appreciate spring break on a much deeper level as a student back in the States. Here in Hungary it?s just another week for me, minus the fact that I?m legally skipping class to travel.
