Hungarian Culture Class

Rebecca | February 7th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Tuesday was my first day of class at the University of Szeged starting with Hungarian culture at 11. My teacher was everything I wanted her to be, 100% Hungarian. She had it all, jet black hair, proper dress, gold jewelry with massive stones, a thick accent, distinct make-up, and a deep pride for Hungary.

She started the class with a roll call.
Teacher: Rebecca (with a rolled R) Loo-vell
Me: I’m here!
Teacher: Vhere do you come from?
(the Ws are pronounced like a V)
Me: The United States
(btw that never gets old. I love saying where I am from)
Teacher: Oh, so far! Vhy did you come here?
Me: Well, that is a great question! The school I attend back in the States has a partnership with the University of Szeged and Hungary seemed to be the perfect fit because I have never visited Eastern Europe.
Teacher: Vell I hope you enjoy it!
Me: I already do!
