First week frustrations

Rebecca | February 7th, 2008 at 9:36 am

I need to come to terms that things are done differently here. It is not as systematic as WVU or Lingnan Uni. (in Hong Kong) is. Everything is completed at a different pace.

Classes here are offered in 1, 2, 3, even 4 hours of credit. How do they transfer back to America is still a mystery. Some of my teachers do not have ?free to the public? e-mail addresses and office hours are rare. To sign up electronically for classes you have to be able to navigate the site?in Hungarian AND with a password that was never provided to the exchange students. We still do not have an ID card even after a WEEK LONG orientation. Keep in mind the ID is basically a business card with a picture THAT WE PROVIDED stapled to it. The business school classes don?t start until the second week of school. Why? Who knows? The library didn?t open today till noon because of some weird rule that it doesn?t open till noon on every third Monday. Humm…ok. Evidently there is a difference between lecture and seminar, doctor and professor, syia (hello) and syia (good-bye). Another one of my classes doesn?t start till March 31st. But my favorite is the class that is listed as ?consultation by e-mail? and NO E-MAIL ADDRESS PROVIDED.

Honestly, what the heck?!

I am trying, really trying, to get these questions answered. I have contacted both International Offices, previous study abroad students, local students, and my professors. Still, I am having no luck. All I want is 15 hours of class, taught in English, with as many Hungarian students as possible.

Everyone I have talked to reminds me that I need to chill out. Everything will work itself out. But how can I just chill out when I have a FLIPPIN GRADUATION to worry about. If I don?t get these classes graduation is in jeopardy. AHHHHH!
