Copenhagen, Denmark

Sarah and I did little to no research on how to properly tour Copenhagen. All we had on the to-do list was a bike tour of the city and dinner with our friend Kritian. On our 5am train ride into the city we were getting more and more excited about the bike tour. I was dreaming away of all the video footage I could get for the WVU video diaries project. Sarah was dreaming away of all the famous sites.

But sadly the bike company wasn’t open. We called frantically asking the company what was wrong. Did we miss the tour???? We were shot down by a polite, ?I am sorry we do not do tours this time of year.? Ouch. Translation: ?You have to be kidding me! It is freezing outside why would anyone want a tour in this cold weather? You crazy American!?

Ok so plan A didn?t work. Plan B was to catch a tour bus. But by the time we got to the city square the only tour bus left was the Mermaid Tour. It was tempting. Really when would we ever have the opportunity to be on a Mermaid Tour!? But we opted out once we saw the price.

What to do now??? Ahh! The changing of the guards is at noon.

Then we walked to the infamous mermaid. Ohh ahhh!

By this time the miles of walking combined with the freezing weather took its toll. We wanted a break. And a break came rolling in with the Mermaid Tour bus. We couldn’t resist any longer, Mermaid Tour here we come. (And yes, we decided to be THAT TOURIST and take the bus because we were too lazy to walk back.)

When we asked the driver if we could hop on at this stop he told us that he was the last bus and already half way through his tour._ Noooo! _ But luckily we struck up conversation in American English.

Bus Driver: _ Cooooool!_ You are from America!
Sarah: Yeah! Where are you from?
Bus Driver: Iceland.
Sarah: Coooool! You are from Iceland!
Bus Driver: Take these ear phones and do not worry about paying.
Sarah: THANK YOU!

So off we were on the Mermaid Tour. (I am not making this stuff up people!) Thanks to the cooool bus driver where we caught a 30 minute tour of the city for free.

Then we caught a free concert at a local church that had Bach, Brahms and Medvirkende on the play list and watched the movie Enchanted.

Our day in Copenhagen ended with grabbing dinner with our friends Kristian (a previous WVU study abroad student) and two of his Danish friends.

Lastly, we caught the 8pm tour back home and Thor picked us up from the train station and took us to his father?s home in the country side and took us to the airport in the morning.

Denmark went really smoothly thanks to the help of wonderful friends.
