European history

You can’t help but want to know more about European history while you’re living here and experiencing the culture. It’s addicting. I’m constantly asking questions. What does the flag represent? What are the current relations with Turkey? Why do people from Romania and Serbia consider themselves Hungarian? Why is this country even called Hungary?

Luckily, I’m in the right place to get my questions answered. People love talking about the history of their country and will tell you about it with great pride.

Often European history will carry over in dinner conversations with study abroad pals. Last week we were talking about the devastation that has come about due to the wars and my friend Erno from Finland said, ‘You can summarize European history by this??
Then he took his fist, raised it up high, and slammed it hard to his other hand and made vocal sound effects like ?pshhhhhh?.crrrrr?

We couldn’t stop laughing. His comment and hand gestures came out of no where.

But he has a point, Europe has had it’s devastation (just ask anyone from Poland) but the best part about history is seeing how far the county has come since.
