Course offerings in Vienna

Eric | February 20th, 2008

I am lucky to be living in a city with so many possibilities for classes to take. Since I am a member of one University (BOKU), I am able to take classes at nearly every other in the city! There is an organization in town called the “USI” or University Sports Institute that arranges all the sports classes in the city. They have a dozen types of martial arts and sports ranging from fly-fishing to break-dancing!

So, this morning, my friend Thomas and myself went to the USI very early, 6am, to get into our classes. We waited in the que or “qued” for about a half hour, not so bad considering the line when we left was practically around the block! This semester I am signing up for several sports classes, one in particular is very popular, indoor rock climbing! Yes!!! I have been climbing for quite a few years now, and finally proper instruction! I know it will help me improve my form, lets just hope there are other englishers in my class!

I am also signing up for an ultimate frisbee class as well as mountain bike tour through the alps for 3 days at the end of the semester (I know, dream come true!). The ability to take so many different classes at will is a concept that is new to me as well as how accommodating they are for classes here (sorry Becky!). My Mountain Forestry Masters classes only seem to have a few people to each class, which is something I have never had before and is rather enticing.

Well, it is gorgeous outside, supposed to be like 8 degrees C, so I am going on a mountain bike tour with Hannes to the Wienerwald for the afternoon. Ah, it is nice to still be vacation, classes do not start for another 2 weeks!

Bye!
