German Stammtisch

Johannes | October 4th, 2008

Know what a Stammtisch is? Basically it is a certain table in a certain pub where at a certain time a week certain people meet and talk and usually drink a beer. And there is a Stammtisch in Morgantown – a German Stammtisch. We found it more or less coincidentally as we went to the Brew-Pub Thursday night. All the native German speakers were already gone. Though we had a great time chatting with WVU students that are whether experienced German speakers or just beginners.

Here are some German speaking fellows (beginning left): Tobias with an awsome Tyrolean-Swiss dialect, a future German teacher (forgot his name), Christian – a WVU-MBA Student from Austria who lives in West Virginia for already 4 years, a girl (never knew her name ;) married to an Austrian and finally me.

This Stammtisch takes place every Thursday night. And for the oncoming week, I promised to show up with Lederhosen. Do you know them? They are very traditional Austrian and southern German apparel. Originally I wanted to wear them at the Oktoberfest, organized by the German Club? As far as I remember it will be held on October, 18th. Unfortunately we already booked a flight to Chicago at this particular weekend.

So if anybody is interested in the German culture and/or is keen on seeing a guy in Lederhosen (if you don’t know, what this is check out this link ), you should come to the Stammtisch.
