Top 5 ?'s on Hungary

Rebecca | January 21st, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Here are the top 5 questions people have asked me when I tell them that I?ll be going to Hungary:

1. Why Hungary?
Hungary seemed like a perfect fit from the beginning because it was a non-traditional country in Europe that has similar school semesters as WVU, offers classes in English that pertain to my major, and I would be close to my older sister who is in graduate school in England.

2. Do you know the language?
Sadly I don?t know Hungarian but I’m up for learning while I’m there. Luckily my classes will be taught in English but if I want to travel around Hungary, especially in the countryside, I’ll try and persuade a local student to come along with me to help translate. My cousin bought me a pocket guide Hungarian-English dictionary that I’ll be able to use too if needed.

3. Are you going to visit your sister?
Oh you bet! I’m heading over a week early to visit her in Cambridge, England. I’m quite excited! I miss her terribly!

4. Are you going to graduate on time?
As of right now, all is a go. My advisor has signed off on my papers and I’ve paid my graduation fees. But I actually will miss WVU’s formal graduation ceremony because I’ll be in Hungary. I’m hoping to at least walk the stage in Hungary. How cool would that be?!

5. Do you know anyone over there?
Luckily WVU hosted two Hungarian students from the Uni of Szeged last semester, Lehel & Nora. You’ll hear me talk about them a lot because they are dear friends who have been so helpful in answering all of my questions. But other than that, I really don’t know anyone else.
