Preparation for Morocco

Adam | August 12th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Hello! I am Adam Pellillo and I will be studying abroad this fall at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco. This blog will essentially be a journal of my adventures abroad, yet I?m sure I?ll infuse it with some rants about economics or something likewise arcane. But don?t worry, I?ll try to make it entertaining and if I fail at that in writing, I will surely resort to posting videos of me dancing in the Sahara.

I just recently finished leading my last Adventure WV trip for the summer. Currently, I am preparing for my expedition overseas by exploring Morocco via Google Earth and digesting pills for a typhoid vaccination. Over the last few weeks, I have been trying to learn some Arabic but it is a bit difficult to understand. Classes at the University are taught in English, so I am trying to learn that as well.

Out to eat with the family and significant others..

My departure is shortly after WVU?s FallFest, which leaves me just enough time to meet up with everyone back in Morgantown. In that time, I hope to get my fill of pepperoni rolls, Black Bear?s ?bear trap? burritos and find everything I?ll absolutely need in a foreign country. If you have any tips or ideas, feel free to click the ?Comment? link at the bottom of this post. Thus far, I am packing the following items:

English breakfast tea, backpack, daypack, Clif Bars, two pairs of shorts, two pairs of pants, one pair of underwear (just kidding, two), a few casual shirts, a blazer, a few t-shirts, few sweaters, fleece, compressed down jacket, toboggan, trail running shoes, casual shoes, socks, passport and wallet, sunglasses, journal, Kershaw, compass, small med kit, laptop, camera, power converters, phone card, ThermaRest, backpacking pants/shorts, synthetic clothes for outdoor travel, rain jacket, Nalgene, toiletries, guidebooks, random gifts, swimsuit, one circa-1930s Indiana Jones revolver

Any gear advice? Let me know.

Yikes!

I?m heading out on August 23 and will be stopping at almost every airport in the Northern Hemisphere. Yet the more stops, the merrier, as I enjoy both people watching and peanuts. In my last travels, I met an affable engineer who had contracts with the Bin Laden Group and took us to the birthplace of Albert Einstein for some odd reason. There was also a Cameroonian writer who ostensibly didn?t want to talk to me but was forced to as I needed to practice French. Hopefully I?ll meet some more interesting people on my journey across the Atlantic, yet if not there, certainly in Morocco. I?ll post again soon. Until then, ma?assalam!

Adam, I don’t see the revolver in this picture…
