Italian Company Tours and LEAP!

Julie | March 7th, 2007 at 12:41 pm

Today we were all split into groups and each group went to a different company in the area to have a tour! My business law teacher is the lawyer for a fashion company called Fashion Box who produces the brand Replay (which I’m sure some of you out there know and love!). We had the chance to go and see their headquarters and see how the process works from conception of the clothing to the actual manufacturing of the clothes. I love seeing the differences and similarities of companies here and back home. This one lady who works for the advertising/pr part of the company was one of the speakers that they had talk to us. She started off working for an international company that was based out of the US – and she said moving to a company headquartered in Italia was soooo much different! She said that in the US company decisions were such a long and drawn out process. Everybody had to go through and approve things before you could do it, but there at that company she said things are more like- ok. yup. sounds good- lets do it.

What I really like is how we have the option to be part of the LEAP program here. LEAP stands for LEARN, ENRICH, ACHIEVE, PERFORM. We have each been assigned a coach who we meet with about once a week and discuss our life goals, what we need to work on to achieve them, and what we need to work on to become the best that we possibly can be. We do assessments, activities, visualizations… a lot of different things to get at what we really want to do. My coach’s name is Deby and I love her! haha. I was a little skeptical about the whole thing, but after our first meeting I really enjoyed it. This is something that I wish our school could do (Hey maybe we can start a program??? I’ll help with it!!) Pairing students up with coaches that really sit down with the students and talk about what they want to get out of life… could be very useful for the freshman!

Monday we had a resume workshop (first of two) and we went through all aspects of witting our resumes and cover letters. It was a lot of Professional Development that you must take if you are a business major, but I always love picking peoples brains about what I should do for my resume. Also, what is really cool about these resumes is that once we finish our “CIMBA styled resumes” they gave us a list of tonnnsss of companys that we can choose from and have our resumes sent there. Every little bit helps!!

This week is half way done with the program! I can’t believe it. There is still so much I want to do and see!!! Once the program is done I will be very happy to go home though. It’s something about being away for a long time that makes it so desirable to go home. It will definitely be a bitter, sweet moment… kind of like when we came here.

Well I’m off to eat dinner… Pasta I’m sure! haha. When I get home I am not eating carbs for a very long time!! Cause if you know me you know that me and my dad always shy away from them anyway and that’s all I eat over here! uggghh..

Ciao!! <3 Julie!
