POMPEII!

Julie | March 30th, 2007

From Rome we took a day trip to Pompeii.. it was about a 2 1/2 hour train ride, but SOOOO worth it!

We arrived at the train station and walked into the “new” Pompeii- the part where people actually live today. It was really cool because there really weren’t many tourists there and it was just a small authentic Italian town. We had lunch at a little cafe (delicious paninis- definitely something I’m going to hardcore miss about Europe) and then we went and visited the ruins. It was really foggy that day so we didn’t get a chance to see Mt. Vesuvius, but it’s ok. The ruins were so much fun to see. To walk through these streets where so much history happened more than 2000 years ago – it was crazy to think about. Like when we were walking down one of the main streets where they had shops- what did they look like back before it was covered by the volcano in 79AD? I love seeing ruins and historical stuff like that. My dream ever since I was little is to go to Egypt and see all the pyramids… ahh I can’t wait to do that someday!

Seeing the ruins is the only thing to do in the town, so that’s the only thing we did- but I definitely recommend going and seeing it if you can!! We almost didn’t go because it cost us like 60 euro, but honestly. It was so worth it!!!

Ciao <3 Julie!
