When in Rome . . .

Me and Von in the REAL Coliseum!!

Where to even begin with Rome. Wow. It was definitely a shock to get into Rome. First off it’s HUGE- It’s filled with so much culture- There were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many people- It’s beautiful- and I was so excited to be there!! Iwona’s sister met up with us for the week so it was great to see someone from home!!!! We all agreed that our favorite part was the Coliseum. We went in there and hung out for a while. We just sat there and people watched, and listened to all the tours going by (ha- so we got all the info free!!), and just enjoyed the beautiful weather in Rome. It was weird though because one day we were outside eating gelato (the European Ice Cream… which is the greatest thing in the entire world.) and it started HAILING?! We were like ummm what?!!! It only hailed for like 15 minutes, but we were so confused.

I don’t know how many of you out there have read or saw the Davinci code or read Angels and Demons – but vising all these places is so cool because I think back to those books and picture the stories happening. I loved it!! I had just finished Angels and Demons this trip so it was awesome to be in Rome to think about the story and seeing all the places.

The Pope gives his blessing every Sunday and Wed mornings. So we got to see him!

No big deal or anything… just hanging out in the Coliseum… Did Pittsnogle just shoot a 3 pointer

I guess these Romans didn’t like us? haha

Me and Von with our Dner Kebab

So in big European cities they have these big kabobs of meat and they shave it off and serve sandwiches and such. They’re called Dner Kebabs. They are sooooooooooooooo good. Thought I’d put up a pic of me and von enjoying one because seriously- everybody over here loves them and they are SO GOOD!!

Rome was such a good time. We got there on St. Patty’s Day and there was a huge Ireland vs. Italia Rugby game so there were TONSSS of irish people there. We got to hang out with alot of them and had a great St. Patty’s Day! The Irish are always a good time. We also met this boy named Brett who is in the US army and he’s working over here now training troupes. I love all the different people you meet on your travels. We met boys from Virginia, a guy who sells jewelery from Australia (he reminded me of Joeii with all his jewelery talk), a girl from Australia, a girl from Canada, and a bunch of other people. Gotta love it!!! :0)

What did surprise me about Rome was that the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps were not in big piazzas. They were surrounded with buildings and there really wasn’t much room around them. Usually with big monuments like that they have a big piazza around them… just found that interesting!!

One bad thing was that some girl tried to pickpocket Von while we were there!! There were 4 girls and one had a baby and they tried to distract you while they got in your pockets… but we’re smart girls and realized it and Von like pushed the girl away. It was crazzyyy. Everywhere you go you see signs saying beware of pickpocketing. That was the first time we ever encountered that though!!

I can’t wait to go back sometime!!!

Ciao <3 Julie!
