Austria Anticipation
After two months of waiting for my accommodations, the other day I was rewarded with a sigh of relief. They booked me about a dozen blocks from campus, which isn’t too terribly far to ride by bike. I hope others from BOKU will be living in my complex, it is called “Kolpinghaus Wahring,” and I am to be in a double room. The kitchen situation is kind of a drag, I am to be sharing one with everyone on the floor, hopefully it is fully stocked!
Aside from sparse cooking potential, I think I will be very happy at “Kolpinghaus Wahring.” I will be downloading Google Earth soon to check it all out and gauge distances to places. I just finished all the paperwork I can do from the States’ end, it is nice to have it out of the way, I am sure I will be greeted in Austria with more! I honestly don’t mind it though, the research involved in this endeavor has become a sort of hobby for me :-) It is shaping and preparing me for what I think Vienna will be like.
Going abroad has given me a great excuse to shop. I have been watching Viennese styles for a little while now and I am trying to build up a sort of European wardrobe. I aim to mesh in and keep a low profile when I travel over there, especially when traveling to other countries. I should probably start packing soon, but a prior engagement has my attention. Colorado makes me go out there every winter for a ski and mountain climbing trip.
I am utterly overwhelmed by travel opportunities in and around Austria. It’s central location makes getting anywhere fairly easy. Unfortunately, the exchange rate will hold me back, tailored to the cost of living in a big city like Vienna. Like Morgantown though, I am sure I can find a way to live more frugal. Well, thats all for now, as this epic journey gets closer I will keep you posted on my status.
Auf Wiedersehen!

Kolpinghaus Wahring is nice and basic and more importantly, clean (at least 6 years ago). It’s only a short tram ride away from the center. I met many interesting people during my stay and the most interesting person I met is now my wife (and I only stayed there for two weeks!)
Let me know if you need any tips on Vienna.
Tschüssi Baba!
Hey Eric,
Greetings from the USA! My name is Becky and I’ll be studying abroad in Hungary through WVU this semester. Feel free to add Szeged, Hungary, to your travel list. It would be an honor to show a fellow Mountaineer my new ‘home away from home’.
Best of luck in the coming semester!

Hallo Eric!
Hey, I’m Hannes, an Austrian student studying wood technology at the BOKU. And – believe it or not – I am right now applying for a semester (fall semester) abroad at the WVU. I think we should meet in Vienna – maybe I can give you some introduction to the Austrian way of studying and you can exlpain some aspects of the WVU to me. When will you arrive here? Would be great if we could meet!
Liebe Grüße aus Wien!
Hannes
