Bio: Colin Wood

Colin Wood Oi gente! (I’m going to roughly translate that as “Hey ya’ll!”)

I am Colin Wood, a junior jazz studies major at WVU. I play tenor saxophone mainly, as well as some other things, most interestingly the Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI). I know what you’re thinking, and yes, it is the greatest invention known to mankind. I have been heavily involved in the jazz ensembles at the university and around the Morgantown area as well as the Presbyterian Student Fellowship. I have also participated in the Student Video Diary project. A formidable part of my college career so far has been spent in a practice room in the depths of the Creative Arts Center.

Well, no more. This semester I am studying in beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As part of the Music Alive! exchange program, I will be taking classes at Pontificia Universidade Catolica as well as Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. I have the wonderful fortune of exploring the multitude of Brazilian musical styles in the very birthplace of the samba and bossa nova. I will be in the city for the famed Carnival celebration among other exciting events. Please enjoy the videos, pictures, and accounts of my travels.

Obrigado (thank you),
Colin Wood
